Mobile Companies Replace Plastic Packaging With Sustainable Material

We have a responsibility

The world we live in demands a certain level of maturity from everyone. Specifically, the ones who have the influence. The packaging industry at large is going through a shift. Companies from all over the world in different fields are investing more and more in the R&D that are tasked to find ways to reduce or replace the use of plastic as a packaging material. This is easier said than done. A complete shift to a more sustainable model is a very time consuming and taxing job. With a furor as strong as it is to find eco-friendly means and methods, change is inevitable.

This is not important at all! Or is it?

Clamors and noise! There was a distinct segment of the population that was demanding the mobile tech companies to take action in this direction. There was a concern that suggested a lack of initiative from not all but some of the leaders in this industry. Mobile phone companies are quite possibly the most coveted companies from any industry in the media. They had to take action!

Too much awareness!

Everyone is lining up behind the sole cause of the plastic reduction in the packaging material and the product itself.   There are teams and separate allocation of budgets that are constantly finding ways to reduce the packaging materials and the use of plastic. Too much awareness is a good thing when it comes to climate control. Rallying behind a cause with so much fervor is exactly what’s needed.

So is it all just PR or is there genuine sincerity behind?

The question is not important as long as there is some work being done on this front. The time has come for the world to realize that whatever we have been doing in order to make money and be successful, what is the cost that we are paying? Is it all going to come crashing down? All businesses run on financial gains.   The governments and the lawmakers can sign on deals and make laws regarding climate control or sustainable living plans but there are not going to get implemented on a corporate level until they are cost-effective. And it should be that way. This process sometimes takes time to figure out what works for everyone and all.

The increased use of paper instead of Plastic

The powers with the decisive authority are coming to acknowledge the fact replacing plastic or reducing it can be advantageous. The cost of making plastic films can be reduced with different methodology. There are a little addition and subtraction that goes into it but that also reduces the overall quality of the final product. We can’t discredit plastic all the time.   The fact remains that plastic is sturdier and more durable when compared directly against the paper. This, however, won’t stop the movement. The only reason things took a turn is because of inadequate means that are present for the disposal and recycling of plastic. If proper research and development had gone in favor of plastic use, we would not be having this conversation about which one packaging material is better.

Coming back to the topic, the use of packaging paper as a packaging material is slowly making its way into our daily lives. The mobile packaging that includes various little plastic films seems too much. An average mobile phone box has so much plastic and right after the unboxing, most of it is immediately thrown in the trash cans. Normally the only piece of packaging that remains long after unboxing is the cardboard box which is basically paper. Earphones, sim tray pins, charger, and the cable and the manual all come in separate thin plastic films. Those that are from packaging will know that making separate small packaging carriers is costlier than making one big carrier.

A totally free from plastic design can be thought of and newer alternatives are being discussed. A material that has been developed recently that goes by the name of Peptic is being marketed as something that will replace both paper and plastic. It is being claimed by the makers that Paptic will possess qualities of both paper and plastic making it durable, easier to recycle like paper, and increased heat resistance. If this is true and most tests have signaled in that direction that it is indeed the future of packaging, then we might have something on our hands.

With these advancements and with the packaging paper industry already on the rise, plastic makers are intensifying their efforts to come up with better plans to increase the sustainability of plastic. As mentioned, plastic has been really helpful if only packaging and carrying is concerned. The only problem lies in the proper disposal and recycling. Since many ingredients are used to manufacture plastic for packaging, it makes it more complicated to turn the plastic into raw form after usage so that it can be recycled. As a result, simpler recipes, so to speak, are being looked at. If there are some strides in this direction, plastic can sort of making a comeback in the market. Numbers still suggest plastic is the king when it comes to packaging material, but even with this sort of mass usage; it has been turned into a tragic king who is seemingly fighting a battle for survival.

Conclusion

The war for being the ultimate environmentally friendly packaging material will continue well into the future. The plastic industry will come up with ways to evolve keeping the need of the time's insight and paper industry will continue to trail behind closely. Purely based on science and facts, we cannot really argue about which packaging material is better. Usage of paper as a packaging material has its pros and cons just like plastic. If plastic is a better option then there is the issue of proper disposal and if the paper is more ecofriendly then it remains to be seen whether the cost of paper production can be reduced or not.
